On Tuesday night of this week it was the official "Neighborhood Night Out" for the city of Wichita. It is a night when folks are encouraged to have block parties and get to know their neighbors. The Neighboring Movement was invited to have a booth at a Block Party hosted by Bethany United Methodist Church. It was a rainy evening, but in spite of the weather, it was still a great event. The church decided to move the event into their basement because of the rain. They had 10 different booths with neighborhood non-profits, organizations and businesses. They also had lots of games for the kids and hamburgers and hotdogs for everyone. It was a great gathering of assets from the community!

Sorry this picture is so blurry. Hopefully you get a feel for the event.

I was especially thankful because we were next to the Brianna's Bakery Booth! On the other side of us was Susanne Welshans (code enforcement liaison with the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department). Susanne is doing amazing work connecting volunteer groups with folks who need help with home projects. Other booths included: The Child Advocacy Center, Emberhope, the Girl Scouts, Way FM, Bethany UMC, and the American Red Cross.
